Our art collection

Our apartment is turning into an art museum. My little Picasso loves to color rainbows and draw circles and write scribbles in her joonal. (Yeah, she calls random pieces of scratch paper her journal. Adorbs.) Lilly is turning into quite the little artist and I love collecting her works of art and putting them on display.

The front of the fridge is covered, so I've resorted to hanging Lilly's masterpieces on the side of our pantry. Unfortunately, things are starting to overlap. I'm on the lookout for a cheap display option for the standout pieces and the rest will find their way to Grandpa's house... or the recycle bin. (Does that make me a bad mom? I hope not. Yeesh. I'm having second thoughts. Is this how people end up on Hoarders?)

Anyway, her skills blow me away... and not just because I'm her mom, but because, well, she's good!

This is the inside of a card she made for our friend Laura. Miss Laura, to be exact. Miss Laura led our Story Time group up until recently. She has a wonderful little dog named Darcy. Lilly is Darcy's biggest fan, so of course she had to include a picture of her. She even drew Darcy's toy tennis ball and she made sure to include Darcy's puhple necklace. Oh, and of course she had to add the mountains in the background. Not bad for a two-year-old.

I bought this awesome tape from Target and decided to let Lilly go to town with it. I thought we would end up with more tape on Adeline than on the paper, so I was so surprised to see Lilly's creation. She proudly presented it to me and explained that it is a choo-choo train on a pink track. The yellow thing in the right corner is the sun (duh) and the red strip is a bird. The train is carrying a tree and the orange strip in the front is the conductor. (Do you see it now?)

I think she said this one was broccoli, chicken, rice and pasta. Haha. So abstact.

It's so cool to watch her learn and grow and actually create things that kinda sorta make sense. I know I must sound like one of those horrible gushing moms, but I can't help it. I love gushing over these girls. That's kind of my job.

  1. Lilly's artwork is great! Encourage her to keep it up. And I'm sure I don't need to mention -- date and save them all.

  3. how fun! if we have a kid, i KNOW i will have a hard time not keeping ever single thing they ever make!
do you have a michael's near you? the ones here have these great white/black/brown frames with a mat that are ALWAYS on sale for 5 dollars. i use them all over the house because they make prints looks great (i think the secret is the mat) but the are so cheap! or i've seen people get clip boards, put a nail in the wall to hold them, they you can switch out the pictures so easily and make a rotating little art display!

  5. Super cute! We were starting to collect a lot of art work too. So what I usually do is mail the latest masterpiece to a family member. I have a huge family so its not too overwhelming. And I keep one really special piece next to my bed. Something my oldest daughter is really proud of! That one gets changed out once in awhile. I also keep my favorites on the back of my door at my office. Hidden from customers but displayed for me!
