Our ordinary day

Ever wonder what we do all day? No? Yeah, didn't think so. It's not all that exciting.

Most of our days are pretty boring and uneventful. Some days, we don't leave the house. Some days, Addie spends her entire day in nothing but a diaper. But one day, that won't be the case anymore. The girls won't spend their entire day by my side. They'll grow up and move on to bigger and better things. So, as mundane as our days can be, these are still the simple moments that I'll miss one day. These moments deserve to be remembered.

When Jill over at Baby Rabies posted a how-to on documenting an ordinary day, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do. So, I did it. Here we go... an ordinary day, as told in 25 pictures:

8:30 AM
The girls are awake. Let's do this.

8:35 AM
Our plants are thirsty. I didn't even notice Lilly was wearing these glasses
until I went through all of my pictures at the end of the day. I love her.

8:40 AM
De-funk myself.

9:00 AM
Breakfast: smoothie and a sandwich. "No, Mommy. Sandwiches are breakfast!"
There's no arguing with this one.

9:10 AM
While Lilly eats, Addie destroys reads some books.

9:30 AM
Still finishing breakfast and spending quality time with the Bubble Guppies.

10:00 AM
Story time. We read a variety of books, including one about Easter and one about Halloween.

10:30 AM
Playtime in the girls' room. Lilly cleans her kitchen. Addie assists.

11:30 AM
I start my chores. First up: laundry. Lilly assists.

12:00
Nap time for Addie. Mommy is still cleaning.

12:45 PM
The beast rises.

1:00 PM
Time for an outfit change and an earring cleaning.
Lilly finally decides we can wash her beloved Tinkerbell dress.

1:30 PM
I need to vacuum. The girls don their protective gear.

2:00 PM
Late lunch.

3:00 PM
Arts and crafts! Lilly and I paint rainbows. Addie tries to eat the paper.

4:00 PM
Youtube babysits Lilly while I hop in the shower.

4:30 PM
Daddy is home early! Lilly plays dress-up. Nice shoes, kid.

5:00 PM
Manicure time. Either I'm not very good at painting nails,
or Lilly isn't very good at sitting still. Your call.

6:00 PM
Dinnertime! Addie feasts on avocado, among other things.

6:10 PM
Still dinnertime. Lilly throws a few tantrums before hiding under the table with the feta cheese.

7:15 PM
Bath time! Scrub-a-dub, Addie.

7:30 PM
She's clean and ready for the boob.

7:40 PM
Lilly regresses to infancy. Must bathe in baby tub.

8:00 PM
Teeth brushing time. She likes to pretend she sees cavities in her mouth
and she has to brush them away immediately. Last night, she saw ten cavities.

8:30 PM
Story time, Pt. II. This time we read about Christmas.

So, there you have it: a typical day for us. Of course, I picked a day when I knew we wouldn't be leaving the house and I also left some stuff out.... like, the many diaper changes and nursing sessions. I also stopped taking pictures when it was time to really put the girls to bed.

I'm so glad I documented our ordinary day and I think I'll do it again soon. Maybe next time I'll even attempt to actually be in some of the pictures.

    1. she wears them all the time! i think she might think they're real, normal sunglasses and she's like, "oh hey... it's bright out. better protect my eyes." haha.

  5. Gorgeous pictures! I loved it. And am totally impressed that your girls wear protective ear muffs while you vacuum. Mine usually just run in the other room :)

    1. Thank you so much!

Yeah, they wouldn't have it any other way. The second they see the vacuum, my youngest starts wailing and my oldest screams bloody murder until she successfully gets her earmuffs over her ears. My neighbors must love me.

    1. It's funny, my oldest used to be fine with it. In fact, we bought her a toy vacuum for her first Christmas. Then, one day, she just decided the vacuum was out to get her.
